Hispanic workforce will grow 30% in next 8 years.
Diversity has been a buzzword for nearly a decade. Recruiting Nevada’s parent company - Recruitment Specialists Inc. - was the publisher of the first diversity recruitment magazine in the country back in 1996. DiversityToday, which later became Diversity2000, was distributed to nearly every college career services office in the United States. When Trader Advertising Media (Cox and Landmark Communications) bought the magazine, they ceased publication because they thought “diversity” was just a fad.
Not even 10 years later, the Bureau of Labor Statistics is reporting that our workforce will soon be minority driven, with Hispanics making up nearly 27 million of the future workforce. Fad? I don’t think so. I wouldn’t even call it a trend. I would call it a fact - nothing less. We saw it coming and wanted to change the employer mindset from ‘affirmative action compliant’ to ‘diversity driven.’
I believe we are there.
The next question: Will minorities still be considered minorities?
